Diesel Weekends 2014
Summer Diesel Gala, 4 – 6 July
A royal treat is in store this summer. The East Lancashire Railway welcomes the visit of “Prince William” from the National Railway Museum. Several other guest locomotives, as well as our very own Hymek, which is returning to service after an overhaul and repaint into BR Blue, will also be running.
As ever, we will be putting on an action packed show and visitors from far and wide will not be disappointed with the locomotive line-up, which includes:

Class 14 Diesel Gala, 25 – 27 July
2014 heralds a very important anniversary for the Swindon-built 0-6-0 Diesel Hydraulic Class 14 “Teddy Bear”. The 24 July marks 50 years since D9500 was commissioned. The East Lancashire Railway is hosting a long weekend of running with the largest gathering of D9500s in preservation.
19 of the class survive and to mark this momentous anniversary, a gathering of operational locos will run an intensive timetable including the return of D9537, hauling a train for the first time in over two decades on the Friday Night Special.
The celebration will feature three full days of Class 14 running, each with a different twist. Evening specials will run on both the Friday and Saturday, the latter being the “Bear-Ex” with 10 Class 14s involved!
Bury Bolton Street footbridge will also be hosting a timeline display detailing the history of of the Class 14s. Class 14 models will be in attendance with displays of everything from “00″ through to “5″, the outstanding 7 1/4 award winning of D9522, and a one off display of a selection of models including a unique model of D9537, courtesy of Hattons Model Railways Ltd. Join the prize draw to win a free D9537 model, tickets will be given away with every event booklet.

Autumn Diesel Gala, 27 – 28 September
See out the year in style at the final full Diesel weekend of 2014. Guest locomotives will be running an all diesel passenger service alongside engines from the railway’s own home fleet.
Diesel Theme Day, 8 November
Our final diesel event of 2014. If you are a fancier of all things diesel, you won’t want to miss this.
