1940s Weekend

    We’ll meet again…

    Dust off your dancing shoes for a weekend of vintage glamour at this award-winning event. We pull out all the stops to bring you live music and entertainment, historical exhibitions and more from Britain’s finest hour!

    What’s Included?

    Various 1940s themed events and re-enactments will be taking place at stations along the 12 mile line. Highlights include a SPITFIRE FLYPAST, vintage stalls, live music, dance classes, tank displays, classic cars, military weapons displays, re-enactments and more!

    • Listen to ENSA entertainment from Paul Harper, Don Gentile, The Rum & Cola Girls, The Washboard Resonators, The Bluebird Belles, The Vintage Vocalist and Kelly Ann
    • Watch battle re-enactments
    • Enjoy live music and dancing, including the George Formby Appreciation Society, Middleton Band and The Backstep Boogie Club
    • Check out military and classic vehicle displays
    • Say "bonjour" to the characters from 'Allo, 'Allo
    • Peruse fashion and memorabilia stalls
    • Be mesmerized by Jez Mansfield Magician & Spiv Extraordinaire
    • Sit in the cockpit and experience the sight, sound and power of a working Spitfire*
    • Meet hundreds of dedicated re-enactors
    • See the spectacular Spitfire Flypast
    • Look and listen to historical displays and talks
    • View the Military Parade in Ramsbottom on the Sunday of the event
    • Shake hands with Sir Winston Churchill who will be making appearances throughout the weekend
    • Visit the different themed stations along the line from Camp Roanoke to Rossendorf
    • Take part in vintage craft activities
    • Treat yourself to a traditional cream tea (and glass of fizz) in our opulent Observation Saloon**

    *Working Spitfire Experience

    This is your chance to experience the sight, sound and power of the stalwart Spitfire. Your experience will include sitting in the cockpit to have your photos taken using your own camera. You will be given a briefing on the aircraft and its controls by one of the experienced team and you will even get to start up the 27 Litre V 12 Rolls Royce engine. The engine run lasts for 1 minute in which time it will burn between 1-2 gallons of fuel.

    The Working Spitfire Experience lasts approximately 20 minutes and costs £40.00, plus a £10.00 deposit to secure your booking. To book your Working Spitfire Experience please click here and select a date and time.

    Please NoteThe engine can only run once every hour so spaces are strictly limited. Working Spitfire Experience bookings do not include entry to the event.

    ** Observation Saloon Cream Tea Experience

    Sit back, relax and indulge in a traditional cream team on-board our luxurious Observation Saloon as it journeys up the line. Enjoy a scone with butter, jam, clotted cream and tea or coffee, as well as a glass of fizz for part of your journey for just £10 (upgrade on 1940s Weekend ticket). Just turn up for the service and if there's availability we'll book you on.

    Please note that on Saturday 26th May the Helmshore Textile Museum will be open to the public for 1 day only from 12pm - 4pm. The East Lancashire Railway will be running a free bus service from Ramsbottom Station to the Helmshore Textile Musuem throughout the afternoon.
