    In the Summertime when the weather is fine! 

    Forget about picking up your first real six string, spending Summer in the city or just sitting back and unwinding, this year why not go for a adventure in the sun on the East Lancashire Railway? Highlights along the line include a magical adventure with some storybook stars, a day out with Thomas the Tank Engine and more!

    Children’s Craft Workshops at Bury Transport Museum, 25 July, 1, 15, 22, 29 August

    Looking for something to keep the little ones busy? Every Wednesday over the school holidays Bury Transport Museum will be playing host to a drop in craft workshop. Each session is themed after a specific craft activity, from putting together and testing floating boats to dabbling in rocket science by fashioning a space craft!

    These sessions run from 11am – 3pm and all materials are supplied.

    Entry into the museum is free, entry into the craft workshop costs £1 per child to cover crafting supplies.

    Princess Academy, 2 August

    It’s a tale as old as time. Join your favourite fairy tale characters on a quest to retrieve the magical gems of storybook land from the vile villains and rescue everybody’s happily ever afters. Along the way you will meet a cast of colourful characters and learn all of the prized princess skills and noble knightly know-how you need!

    This interactive adventure includes a steam train ride alongside costumed fairy tale characters during which you will take part in a host of entertaining activities.

    Tickets cost £13 per adult and £8.50 per child.

    Day Out with Thomas, 4 – 5 August

    Calling all little engineers, come and spend the day with Thomas, the Fat Controller and all of their friends. Activities include rides behind Thomas, performances by cheeky station sweepers Rusty and Dusty, Thomas themed games, colouring and films in the Imagination Station, live re-enactments and more!

    Everything kicks off at 9:45am and attractions are taking place at Bury Station, Bury Transport Museum and Ramsbottom Station.

    Tickets cost £19.50 per Adult, £12 per Child, £55 per Family (2 adults and 2 Children) and £65 per Family (2 adults and 3 children).

    Sci-Fi on the Sidings, 18 – 19 August

    Push back the final frontier on a day out of intergalactic proportions! Celebrate science fiction alongside characters from all of the best franchises including Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers, the Daleks and Cybermen, dinosaurs from Jurassic World, a giant spider from Harry Potter and much more.

    Each station along the line will be themed after a particular science fiction favourite, so make sure you board the trains and get the full experience!

    Tickets cost £16.50 per adult, £15 per concession, £10 per child and £50 per family. Book online and save 10%.

    Scotsman in Steam, 24 – 27 August

    Introduce your family to a true locomotive legend! The Peoples Engine, A3 60103 “Flying Scotsman” makes a long anticipated return to the ELR, visiting one last time for a series of passenger services. Reserve your own place in history by booking a spot on this mechanical marvel as she travels through the beautiful Irwell Valley.

    The loco will be making return journeys between Bury and Rawtenstall as well as Bury and Heywood.

    Bury/Rawtenstall tickets cost £25 per adult, £15 per child. Bury/Heywood tickets cost £15 per adult and £10 per child.
