Schools Out For Santa!
Have your students made it onto Santa’s nice list? If so give them the send-off they deserve as they head home for Christmas with the East Lancashire Railway’s School Santa Specials. These festive experiences have been tailor made with school groups in mind and make for a fantastic end of term treat.
This first class Christmas adventure includes:
- A steam train ride to Rawtenstall and back through the gorgeous Irwell Valley
- An unforgettable festive ambience provided by a beautifully decorated station and carriages
- A team of costumed Christmas characters to entertain you during the trip
- A visit from Santa and his team of elves who will be making their way through the train handing gifts out to the children
- A chance to join the great Christmas Treasure Hunt at Bury Transport Museum

The train departs from Bury Bolton Street Station at 10:45am and returns to Bury at 12:00pm. Once the train gets back to Bury it will remain in the platform for 45 minutes, allowing your group to sit and eat a packed lunch before returning to school.
The East Lancashire Railway is located in the heart of Bury, easily accessible by all forms of transport.
Major road links, including M60, M62 and M66, and parking are near to Bury Bolton Street Station. Bury Bolton Street Station Car Park has limited space, however Bury boasts a number of other facilities close to the station. Charges apply. Limited coach parking is available outside of Bury Bolton Street Station.
By Public Transport:
Bury Interchange provides both bus and tram services throughout Greater Manchester and is just a few minutes' walk from Bury Bolton Street Station.

All of our stations offer step-free access, and on most services we carry a ramp to allow step-free access to our trains. Disabled toilet facilities are available on most operating days at Bury, Ramsbottom, Rawtenstall and Heywood Stations as well as Bury Transport Museum.
