Take a steam train trip back in time to Britain’s finest hour at this all-singing, all-dancing vintage event.
Be sure to pack your dancing shoes and dust off your best polka dot dress, this award winning spectacular features live entertainment, music and dancing, vehicle exhibitions and historical displays, vintage stalls, battle re-enactments and much more.
What’s Included?
Various 1940s themed events and re-enactments will be taking place at stations along the 12 mile line. Highlights include battle re-enactments, a working Spitfire, vintage stalls, live music, dance classes, tank displays, classic cars and more!

- Watch battle re-enactments
- Enjoy live music and dancing, including the George Formby Appreciation Society and The Backstep Boogie Club
- Check out military and classic vehicle displays
- Say "bonjour" to the characters from 'Allo, 'Allo

- Be mesmerized by Jez Mansfield Magician & Spiv Extraordinaire
- Sit in the cockpit and experience the sight, sound and power of a working Spitfire*
- Soak up the patriotic atmosphere of our VE Day Concert (Monday only)
- Meet hundreds of dedicated re-enactors
- Look at historical displays including a replica Field Kitchen and an American Camp
- Shake hands with Sir Winston Churchill who will be making appearances throughout the weekend
- Visit the different themed stations along the line from Camp Roanoke to Rossendorf
- Treat yourself to a traditional cream tea (and glass of fizz) in our opulent Observation Saloon**
Working Spitfire Experience
This is your chance to experience the sight, sound and power of the stalwart Spitfire. Your experience will include sitting in the cockpit to have your photos/videos taken using your own camera. You will be given a briefing on the aircraft and its controls by one of the experienced team and you will even get to start up the 27 Litre V 12 Rolls Royce engine. The engine run lasts for 1 minute in which time it will burn between 1-2 gallons of fuel.
The Working Spitfire Experience will be based in our Bury Transport Museum yard. The experience will last approximately 20 minutes and costs £40.00, plus a £10.00 deposit to secure your booking. Observation Saloon Cream Tea Experience
Sit back, relax and indulge in a traditional cream team on-board our luxurious Observation Saloon as it journeys up the line. Enjoy a scone with butter, jam, clotted cream and tea or coffee, as well as a glass of fizz for part of your journey for just £10 (upgrade on 1940s Weekend ticket). Just turn up for the service and if there's availability we'll book you on.
