Here comes the Sun!
Get your bags packed and get this summer on track! The East Lancashire Railway makes travelling to and from adventures in the Irwell Valley a summer’s breeze. Highlights of the season include magical mayhem on the Wizard Express, a steam powered safari on the Dinky Dinosaur Adventure, storybook frolics, Sci-Fi shenanigans, A Day Out With Thomas the Tank Engine and more!

Wizard Academy, 25 July, 1, 15, 29 August
Term is about to begin at the Wizard Academy. Join a wacky cast of witches and wizards on a steam powered school trip with a touch of sorcery. Find out how to perfect your potions, wiggle your wand and brush up on those broomstick skills during the journey, just make sure you watch out for magical mischief-makers out to steal one of the schools powerful artefacts.
This interactive adventure lasts approximately 2 ½ hours and includes a steam train ride with costumed characters, wizard themed activities and plenty of photo opportunities.
Tickets cost £14 per adult and £9.50 per child.

Day Out With Thomas, 3 – 4 August
Join everyone’s favourite little blue engine on his second visit to the East Lancashire Railway in 2019. Give Thomas and friends the welcome they deserve at this fun filled day out which includes rides with Thomas, the chance to meet The Fat Controller and Rusty and Dusty (the cheeky station sweepers), live scenarios, games and activities and much more.
Your event ticket gets you unlimited travel on all ELR services for the day as well as access to all of the events and activities taking place. You can even ride with Thomas as many times as you want!
Tickets cost £19.50 per adult, £12 per child, £38 per family (1 adult, 2 children) £55 per family (2 adults, 2 children). Under 2s are free.

Fairytale Adventure, 8 August
Dare you embark on a quest to save the magical gems of Storybook Land from a marauding mob of maleficent malcontents! Journey alongside your favourite fairy tale characters and discover the knightly know-how and princess power you will need to unlock your inner hero and rescue everyone’s happily ever afters!
This interactive adventure will take your family on an approximately 2 ½ hour steam train trip alongside fully costumed fairytale characters and includes themed activities and photo opportunities.
Tickets cost £14 per adult and £9.50 per child.

Sci-Fi on the Sidings, 17 – 18 August
Have you always wanted to go to space? Meet an alien? Travel in time? Well now there’s no need to explore strange new galaxies or push back the final frontier, the East Lancashire Railway is bringing the universe to you. Rub shoulders (or tentacles, or robotic claws) with your favourite characters from books, comics and screens big and small at this sci-fi spectacular.
Attractions so far include Doctor Who and ET displays, Star Wars characters and scenery, a Gyrosphere from Jurassic World, the Ecto 1 and more.
Tickets cost £17 per adult, £15.50 per concession, £10.50 per child and £50 per family.

Dinky Dinosaur Adventure, 22 August
Have a roar-some time on this cretaceous caper and get up close and personal with some baby dinosaurs. Learn all there is to know about these prehistoric pre-schoolers from our expert explorers, and maybe even give a Triceratops a tickle on the tummy during this steam train trip into the past.
This interactive experience includes an approximately 2 ½ hour steam train ride during which adventurers will complete dinosaur themed activities alongside costumed characters and their baby dinos.

All of our stations offer step-free access, and on most services we carry a ramp to allow step-free access to our trains. Disabled toilet facilities are available on most operating days at Bury, Ramsbottom, Rawtenstall and Heywood Stations as well as Bury Transport Museum.
