The East Lancashire Railway provides a memorable and quirky wedding experience, with a wide range of options and locations from receptions aboard dining trains and the luxury Observation Saloon to photo opportunities on the footplate, we pull out all of the stops to ensure the success of your special day!
Imagine tying the knot as a gleaming steam engine saunters by, an evening meal aboard a privately hired Pullman style carriage, a delicious buffet ensconced within a genuine 1920s Observation Saloon, these are just a few of the options open to prospective brides and grooms on the East Lancashire Railway!
The Wedding Breakfast
Take your pick from a host of exciting possibilities. Set up an elegant buffet on board our vintage 1920s Observation Saloon for a glamorous, intimate setting. Go for a more elaborate cream tea experience on board your own privately hired first class carriage complete with scones and sweet treats, or select a more structured family feast on a special afternoon dining train.
The Railway Reception
Continue eating, drinking and being merry following your wedding with a private reception, be it sited on one of our trains, a quaint station platform, within the railway's own real ale bar or at the evocative Bury Transport Museum. Options can also include an evening voyage on a Red Rose Dining service, long considered the jewel in the ELR's culinary crown.
The East Lancashire Railway makes the most of the versatility afforded by the 12 mile line by offering several unique locations, each with their own particular charms and atmosphere, allowing a further aspect of personalisation that is offered by few other venues. Both Bury Bolton Street Station and Bury Transport Museum are fully licenced for civil ceremonies.
Bury Bolton Street Station
For the full on, Victorian Railway experience, look no further than Bury Bolton Street Station. The hub of the railway's operations, Bury station is a veritable hive of activity and has a broad suite of facilities and amenities available directly on site, from the traditional Platform Buffet which serves an array of hot drinks and snacks to the popular real ale bar, The Trackside. The station has a lot of potential for live music and other entertainments, subject to your wishes and ideas!
The town of Ramsbottom provides the perfect surroundings for a country day out on the railway. An almost perfect representation of a rural English Village, it makes a great venue for those looking for something a little more relaxed and low key. The expansive station allows plenty of room for improvisation with outdoor buffets, musicians and entertainment.
Bury Transport Museum
The modern surroundings belie the Bury Transport Museum's industrious past. Sited within the original 1848 Castlecroft Goods Warehouse, a recent refit has seen this iconic heritage site transformed into a comprehensive venue which can be hired out in full for your special day. Exchange vows for the future amidst the fascinating remnants of the area's past.
