Christmas Gifts Intro
Dining Experiences

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

He might make a list, he might even check it twice, but we know that Santa has a lot on his plate this time of year, so we’re helping him out with a partridge packed pear-tree of brilliant gift ideas. From driving a heritage steam or diesel engine to a guided tour of local history and local ales, there’s sure to be something to tuck in your loved one’s stocking.

Dining Experiences

The perfect pressie for your resident food fan this festive season, the East Lancashire Railway’s Dining with Distinction experiences offer a gastronomic journey back to the days when steam dining was king! The evening Red Rose Diners represent the jewel in the crown of our culinary experiences, offering an unforgettable atmosphere and luxury surroundings, while the Lancastrian lunches take place in the afternoon and are ideal for a Sunday family feast on a less formal, yet no less enjoyable, experience, and we haven’t even mentioned the Murder Mystery Nights or themed evenings…

Rail Ale Trails

History and beer buffs alike will be delighted to unwrap this on Christmas Day! The East Lancashire Railway’s Rail Ale Trails take visitors on an expertly guided historical voyage through the Irwell Valley, complete with a hearty helping of local ales and steam train travel. Listen to amusing (and occasionally gruesome) anecdotes about Lancashire’s brewing and rail industries, rebellious landlords and inventive, if sometimes unscrupulous, industrialists, all while sampling the finest locally brewed brews on the brewing scene.

Drive a Train

If you have a loved one who is loco for locomotives, consider picking them up a Drive a Train experience and make their childhood dreams come true! These courses allow “engine drivers in training” to do just that, stepping behind the myriad levers and buttons of a heritage steam or diesel engine. The range of packages available can include guided tours and a hot lunch, but whichever they choose they are sure to create a memory to treasure forever.
