  • Tornado returns

    Britain’s newest preserved steam engine breezes onto the East Lancashire Railway’s tracks this Spring, marking the legendary 60163 “Tornado’s” second ever visit to the Irwell Valley line.

    Despite her youth the engine has already become an icon, finding fame in “Top Gear” and the 2017 film “Paddington 2”, as well as being the first loco to reach 100mph in 50 years, so you definitely won’t want to miss this opportunity to welcome her back.

  • Residents' Weekend

    Make your money go the distance with discounted journeys on the East Lancashire Railway this weekend. Our specially lowered Residents’ Rates are available to travellers who are not yet members of the Residents’ Permit scheme for one weekend only.

    To qualify you must reside in the metropolitan boroughs of Rochdale, Bury or Rossendale. When purchasing tickets from our station booking offices or ticket inspectors please provide proof of residency.

  • Spring Steam Gala

    A steam dream for loco lovers, March marks the return of our popular Spring Steam Gala. Climb aboard and enjoy an intensive all steam timetable running throughout the whole weekend, featuring favourites from our own home fleet as well as a couple of special guests…

  • Princess Academy

    This week a host of brave princesses and noble knights will be embarking on a quest to reclaim the magical gems and save Storybook Land from the vile villains! This interactive tale will see you and your family board a steam train alongside your favourite friends from film and fable and take part in a host of entertaining activities to complete the story.

    The event includes:

    • One return trip from Bury to Rawtenstall hauled by a royally restored heritage steam train
    • A two-hour fairy-tale experience with the East Lancashire Railway’s most noble lords and ladies
    • Princess themed activities
    • Plenty of photo opportunities

    Royal refreshments will be available to purchase from our café on Platform ¾ at Bury Bolton Street Station and from our on-train buffet.

    The experience lasts approx. 2 - 3 hours and is recommended for families with children aged 5 years and over.

    Tickets cost £13 per adult and £8.50 per child and must be booked in advance.
