  • Burrs

    Local favourite and newest stop on the East Lancashire Railway line, Burrs Country Park, has been nominated for The Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park 2019.

    For those yet to visit, the park is a lovely place – a mixture of open spaces and woodlands, rivers, ponds and a canal. It can be easily reached on one of our trains, with a station stop sited within the park itself.

  • Day Out With Thomas

    Choo Choo! It’s almost that time again. Thomas the Tank Engine, the Fat Controller, Rusty and Dusty and friends are paying a visit to the East Lancashire Railway for the second time in 2019.

    You won’t want to miss this fantastic family event. Your one time entry fee gets you access to all of the day’s activities, including:

    • Rides behind Thomas the Tank Engine himself
    • The Chance to meet the Fat Controller
    • Performances by Cheeky Station Sweepers Rusty and Dusty
    • Unlimited travel on steam and diesel trains
    • Thomas themed activities including tabletop games, colouring and Thomas films and more
    • Live re-enactments of classic Thomas stories
    • Magic shows and Circus Workshops

    Everything gets started at 9:45am and finishes at 4pm.

    Tickets cost £19.50 per adult, £12 per child, £38 per family (1 adult 2 children) £55 per family (2 adults, 2 children). Under 2s are free.

  • Saabfest

    Take in a collection of over 200 Saab cars, including vintage and contemporary vehicles, at this annual celebration which this year takes place in Burrs Country Park. Attending automobiles will include early two-stroke engine Saab 96s as well as the rare Saab “Sonett” Sports cars. Modern highlights include Saab 9.3s and Saab 9.5s with highly tuned motors. Why not arrive in style on one of the East Lancashire Railway's heritage trains?

  • Santa

    Start your celebrations in style with a steam train ride with Santa and his team of happy helpers on our Santa Specials, 30 Nov – 1 Dec, 7 – 8, 14 – 15, 19 – 24 Dec.

    • Take a steam train ride to Rawtenstall and back through the beautiful Irwell Valley.
    • Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere provided by a traditional brass band and carol singing.
    • Admire the beautifully decorated Bury Bolton Street Station with its hundreds of Christmas trees.
    • Say hello to costumed characters on your journey.
    • Be mesmerized by our on board magician.
    • Meet Santa and his elves as they travel through the train giving a hand-wrapped gift to each child.
    • Receive a chocolate lolly, juice drink and bespoke activity pack for children and a mince pie and festive tipple for grown-ups.
