Our Key Stage 3 and 4 programmes make extensive use of the railway line as pupils embark on guided walks around the local area as well as working independently.

The programmes are tailor made by experienced education professionals to cover different aspect of the National Curriculum. The options on offer can assist with both History and Geography studies.

History

The Town Trail programme sees pupils take a guided walk around Bury town centre to see evidence of the medieval town and how it has changed and developed to the present Century. Students will also study old maps and photos, as well as catalogue local industries at the turn of the 20th Century.

Geography

The Rail Trail programme involves a steam train ride exploring a two mile stretch of the River Irwell. Pupils will look at the effects of erosion and depostition, local settlement patterns, industry and trade links.

The Introducing Fieldwork programme encourages pupils to use worksheets to collect data in either Bury or Ramsbottom town centres. Students will study street appearance, land use and physical and human features before comparing the data they have collected.
