Pennine Telecom and East Lancashire Railway have struck a partnership deal that will see a state-of-the-art Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony system installed to serve the line’s Bury, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall stations. By enabling communications via the internet ELR staff can make free calls across the network, thus cutting costs at an operation which depends upon volunteer support. This will free up funds which can be used to improve and expand the ELR service and further boost annual visitor numbers which are already well in excess of 144,000.
In return ELR have offered Pennine a publicity package that will reach out to the many thousands of visitors the ELR attracts every year.
