The East Lancashire Railway provides an ideal venue for the commissioning and testing of new and existing infrastructure maintenance on-track plant.
Our 12 mile standard gauge route in the Irwell Valley offers a wide variety of track forms and line topography that provide a challenging environment for the proving of equipment such as track tamping plant, ballast cleaning and regulating equipment, rail grinding machines and also track recording and data acquisition apparatus.
A section of our infrastructure is also approved for 100km/h operation for the testing and proving of track machines and other rolling stock.
We are linked to the main line network providing easy access for rail borne vehicles thereby avoiding the need for inefficient and costly road transportation. We can potentially offer more flexibility, ease of planning and a cheaper alternative to that of other service providers in delivering your project!
