Winter Steam Gala – 18 – 19 January
Our first steam gala of the year, featuring an intensive all steam passenger timetable running East Lancashire Railway home fleet locomotives alongside special guests from further afield.
Steam Weekend and Transport Collectors’ Fair – 22 – 23 February
The second steam weekend of 2014 runs alongside the Transport Collectors’ Fair at Bury Transport Museum. Take advantage of the all steam timetable and browse the stalls and exhibitions at the museum.
Spring Diesel Gala – 8 – 9 March
Our first full diesel weekend will feature all diesel timetable running locos from the ELR home fleet alongside special guest locomotives. Pick up refreshments along the line at The Trackside Bar in Bury and The Buffer Stops Bar in Rawtenstall!
Diesel Multiple Unit Day – 15 March
Celebrate the stalwart DMU with this special event at the East Lancashire Railway. The timetable will be running DMUs only.
Residents’ Weekend – 22 – 23 March
For one weekend only all of our local visitors have access to the reduced rate usually only available to resident permit holders. Try out our permit holders prices and explore the local area at a discount!
Ramsbottom Chocolate Festival – 12 – 13 April
Celebrate chocolate because… well why wouldn’t you! This popular local festival will feature craft and traders stalls, family activities and of course, lots of chocolate!
Classic Bike Rally – 20 April
Want to show off your petrol powered pride and joy, visit the Classic Bike Rally at Bury Transport Museum. A number of these beautiful vehicles will be on display in the museum yard. Exhibitors enjoy free travel on the railway for themselves and one passenger!
Day Out With ThomasTM – 3 – 5 May
Thomas the Tank Engine returns to the East Lancashire Railway for the first time in 2014. Join us for rides with Thomas, meet Sir Topham Hatt, get your face painted, pick up your Thomas temporary tattoo, free gift and Day Out With Thomas certificate and much more.
1940s Weekend – 24 – 26 May
Celebrate the glory and the glamour of a bygone era at the East Lancashire Railway’s award winning 1940s Weekend! Enjoy period singing and dancing, re-enactments, vehicle displays and much more. The whole community gets involved to make sure this is an event you won’t want to miss.
Summer Diesel Gala 4 – 6 July
Sunshine (hopefully) and diesels should make this an event to remember. Enjoy an all diesel timetable featuring the East Lancashire Railway’s own home fleet locomotives as well as guest locos.
Raise the Roof 3 – 18 – 19 July
The increasingly popular fundraising event – Raise the Roof – returns for its third year at The Trackside. Let the good times roll with a quirky selection of live music, home-made local food and real ale. All proceeds go towards the restoration of the canopy of Bury Bolton Street Station’s Platform 1.
Class 14 Diesel Gala – 25 – 27 July
A special diesel gala celebrating the teddy bears of the locomotive industry, the class 14! Pay tribute to the sadly short lived career of this diesel engine on British Rail with an intensive timetable running class 14s exclusively.
Day Out With ThomasTM – 2 – 3 August
See out the summer with Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends! Go for a ride with Thomas, meet the Fat Controller, get your face painted, watch live scenarios, take part in Thomas games and much more!
Teddy Bear’s Party – 25 August
If you go down to the railway today you’re sure of a big surprise… we are welcoming everyone (and their furry friends) back to Bury Transport Museum for the ultimate party. Enjoy fairground attractions, teddy bear parades with prizes for the best dressed teds and a treasure trail up the railway line. Kids with a teddy travel for free when accompanied by a full line return holding adult.
Transport Collectors Fair and VintageTransport Gathering – 13 – 14 September
Bury Transport Museum plays host to the Transport Collectors Fair this weekend. Browse stalls chock full of memorabilia and souvenirs and take in the interactive exhibitions. Sunday will see the Vintage Transport Gathering set up in the museum yard, immerse yourself in a display of vehicles from a more glamorous past.
Autumn Diesel Gala – 27 – 28 September
Our last full diesel weekend of 2014. Expect an all diesel timetable running throughout the weekend including locomotives from the East Lancashire Railways renowned home fleet alongside guest engines.
Day Out With ThomasTM – 4 – 5 October
Thomas’ final visit to the East Lancashire Railway in 2014. Join us as we give the little blue engine a grand send off, with rides behind Thomas, face painting, magicians and puppet shows, live scenarios, free gifts and much more!
Autumn Steam Gala – 18 – 19 October
Chase away those Autumnal blues with a visit to the East Lancashire Railway’s final steam event of 2014. The event will feature an all steam timetable running several locomotives from our own home fleet alongside guest engines.
Halloween Ghost Trains – 30 – 31 October, 1 November
There is a ghostly moaning in the train tunnel and an eerie chill on the platform, the Halloween Ghost Trains are coming back to the East Lancashire Railway for 2014! Dare you take a ride into the unknown?
