Rossendale 60's Festival – 12, 13 and 14 September
This year’s Festival will take place on 12th, 13th and 14th September, and has grabbed the attention of Marketing Lancashire, who are going to feature the Festival as one of the top ‘must see’ events for 2014. The Festival will include events in Rawtenstall, Bacup, Whitworth and Haslingden and the contrast of events has really captured all aspects of the 60′s era, from classic cars and scooters to genuine vintage clothes, food and live 60′s music.
New for this year is a ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ supported by Rossobus, and will visit all of the events that are included in this year’s Festival, making it even easier to take in the whole festival!
International Black-Pudding Throwing Championships – 14 September
In this annual competition the ancient grudge between Yorkshire and Lancashire is played out again – this time by hurling Black Puddings at a pile of Yorkshire Puddings on a 20-foot high plinth. Competitors have three turns in an attempt to knock down as many Yorkshire Puddings as possible (they are arranged in a pile of a dozen) and must throw underarm from a purpose built stand called the oche .The competition dates back to the 1980s but the Yorkshire-Lancashire rivalry is lost in the mists of time, and allegedly during the Wars of the Roses the two sides exchanged fire with foodstuffs when their ammunition ran out (if you believe that….). Expect a lively, fun atmosphere and hundreds of puddings! The International Black-Pudding Throwing Championships will be held outside The Oaks pub, Bridge Street, Ramsbottom.
