Class 31 + Steam Weekend

Join us for a weekend (7-8 June) where a heritage Class 31 operates alongside the scheduled steam-hauled service, with a 2-train operation.

As an appetiser for the forthcoming Summer Diesel Gala, ‘English Electric’ fans will not want to miss out on this ‘higher mileage’ opportunity to ride behind heritage Class 31, 31108 courtesy of A1A Locomotives Ltd.

Affectionately known as ‘Goyles’, Class 31’s were introduced to British Rail in the late 1950’s and are popular with enthusiasts for their distinctive look and sound. They remained on frontline passenger duties, operating out of Manchester and Liverpool until the mid-1990’s, hauling ‘Club Trains’ consisting of more comfortable carriages to provide additional capacity for commuters.

The Class 31 is rostered to appear alongside another steam-hauled service, so there will be a 2-train operation over the weekend of 7-8 June where visitors can hop on-and-off for refreshments and to explore the local areas around ELR stations.

All locomotives subject to availability.
