Join us for the East Lancashire Railway’s first Diesel event of 2026, the Winter Warmer Running Day, taking place on Saturday 7 February.

This one-day event celebrates the sound, power and variety of heritage diesel traction, with an intensive timetable operating across the length of the ELR.

A carefully selected line-up of mainline diesel locomotives and heritage DMUs will be in action throughout the day, offering plenty of opportunities to experience these machines at work in authentic conditions.

Load-ex – Heavy Diesel Performance

A highlight of the day will be a dedicated Load-ex working designed to showcase heritage diesel power at its best.

Warship Class 42, 832 ‘Onslaught’ will be making a rare Winter appearance at the event, and will be tasked with hauling a special 10-coach Mk1 formation, complete with a dead-weight locomotive at the rear. This heavy train will allow the locomotive to work hard over the ELR’s gradients, producing the sights and sounds that diesel enthusiasts look forward to through the Irwell Valley.
