No member of staff or a volunteer comes to the railway and expects recognition for their time and skills, but it’s always nice to be thanked.

It was time the Company, who actually receive the benefits of free volunteer time and staff loyalty, to step forward and formally recognise the work of staff and volunteers with its own long service awards scheme.

As a result, we were pleased to advise that the first ELR Company Long Service Awards Ceremony took place on the 20th October 2021 at the Bury Transport Museum.

Of the 58 staff and volunteers eligible for plaques (30 years +) over 60% were able to attend to receive their awards. For those unable to attend, arrangements will be put in place for hand delivery where possible, failing that they will be available for collection at the office in Bolton Street.
