Starting in the first week in January, the East Lancashire Railway began a project to relay fifteen panels of track, equating to some 300 yards to the north of the level crossing at Townsend Fold. The plan is to replace wooden sleepers with concrete ones and swap out old rails for new.

As of the 18th January four panels have been changed and the railway is now awaiting the delivery of sleepers and fittings so that the work can continue apace.
