Leave a Legacy

Help East Lancashire Railway keep the magic of the past alive  and get your will professionally written at a discounted price with our generous partners, Latimer Lee Solicitors. 50% of the fee will be donated directly by Latimer Lee Solicitors to the ELR. It is a lovely way to preserve your memory and our heritage.

Your legacy will help us to keep history moving at the ELR so we can continue to share the amazing history of the railway with generations to come. Your legacy will leave a lasting mark on the railway and ensure we can continue to:

  • Preserve history and heritage: Continuing the restoration, conservation, and interpretation of our railway story for future generations.
  • Repair and restore locomotives and carriages: Undertaking essential work on both steam and diesel engines to keep them operational and safe.
  • Maintain the Bury Transport Museum: Providing a welcoming, educational space that showcases the development of transport in the North West.
  • Run regular heritage rail services: Enabling the public to interact with and experience living industrial history.
  • Deliver inclusive SEND-friendly events: Ensuring that children with special educational needs and disabilities can participate fully in the experiences we offer.
  • Preserve our 170-year-old Locomotive Works: The oldest facility of its kind still in operation for its original purpose, nationally significant historic building requiring specialist care.

Remembering Loved Ones

If you would like to remember family and friends at the East Lancashire Railway, your support for our ongoing fundraising efforts would be greatly appreciated. Though we don’t currently have availability for individual memorial benches or plaques, this may well change in time and with facility extensions.

A plaque commemorating all the Pioneers, working members and supporters, past and present, has been erected on Platform 2 and we lay a wreath in their memory every year.
