How You Can Help
Since the re-opening of the East Lancashire Railway in 1987 we have had thousands of visitors to our 12-mile heritage railway connecting Bury, Ramsbottom, Heywood and Rawtenstall. Every year, visitors enjoy our trains, museums, stations, educational activities and community events. However, like many charities across the UK, we are facing significant increases in operating costs.
There are so many ways that you can help to support us to ensure we can continue to keep this unique piece of Britan’s industrial heritage running and open to the public. Including donating, joining our amazing team of over 700 volunteers or simply visiting our railway and events.

We’re always on the look-out for passionate volunteers to help us keep the ELR open and preserved for future generations. You could staff the ticket office, keep our heritage carriages bright and shining or even drive our trains! There’s lots of areas to volunteer with us, and lots of benefits too.
